The Ybor Neighborhood Civic Association and the City of Tampa will be holding a neighborhood meeting/charette on Sat. May. 19, 2012 at Hampton Inn Ybor. The charette is part of the InVision Tampa project which is creating a redevelopment plan for the entire downtown core area. Your participation is needed to quickly generate design and community solutions while integrating the interests, thoughts and opinions of our diverse neighbors and business people. The 2 hour neighborhood charrette will be preceded by an optional walking tour of the neighborhood. The walking tour is a great way to show us what you like about your Ybor City and how you envision it in the future.

This event is open to EVERYONE.

I wanted to thank everyone that contributed to the design phase of the mural project. We received a lot of great information from so many people that helped us to really get to the root of what Ybor City is all about. We really appreciate you taking the time out to help us make this an image that will be an outstanding addition to the neighborhood.

We are now just wrapping up the technical aspects of the image and getting it ready to be applied to the wall. We put a great deal of time and thought into the final outcome while very carefully considering all of the information we received. There are many layers of narrative, identity, and representations of life in Ybor City over time. We are forming a statement that will support and describe the themes and how we arrived at the final image. I will pass that along as soon as it is complete. As far as the image goes, we would like to wait a little bit longer to release it, at least until it begins to take shape on the wall.

If you would like to help paint, then we’d have to show you right away!
We are in the process of getting some scaffolding put up, and as soon as that is complete we can begin painting. This should be within the next couple of weeks.

Join us on Thursday Dec. 15 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Quarter @ Ybor Community Room for the 2011 HYNCA Holiday Pot Luck Dinner.

The Quarter Community Room is located at the NW corner of Palm Ave. and 19th St. on the second floor above the Metro Market.  You can enter through the back of the Metro Market or the side door next to The Quarter offices and take the elevator up to the second floor.

HYNCA will provide turkey and ham as well as water and soda.  Please bring a side dish or dessert of your choice.

Sunday, November 20, 2011 – Decorate 7th Avenue
Volunteers are needed to help decorate 7th Avenue! Business around Ybor City have donated decorations to be placed around the district and we need help putting them up. Last year, more than 80 volunteers helped spread the Holiday Cheer. 11 AM – 2 PM, Meeting at the Reservoir Bar, 1518 East 7th Ave.  Decorating After Party – Get to know the friends made while decorating a little better at the After Party! FREE and open to all. 2 – 4 PM at Gaspar’s Grotto, 1805 E 7th Ave.

Can’t make it to Rockefeller Center in New York this winter? Join Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn as he lights the 34′ tree in Centro Ybor for the first time this season. Listen to the sounds of the season with live carolers. FREE and Open to All, 6 PM, Centro Ybor, 1600 E 7th Ave.

Thursday, December 1, 2011 – Miracle on 7th Ave
The Ritz Ybor is hosting their 3rd Annual Holiday Party featuring live entertainment by The Ken Apperson Band along with Hoilday-themed cocktails, photos with Santa, art & crafts, complimentary hors d’oeuvers, Holiday Tree Decorating Contest and more. Open to all ages; donations accepted at the door to benefit Pediatric Cancer Fund (PCF) 6-9 PM, The Ritz Ybor, 1503 East 7th Ave.
